Heartbreak for our last attempt at the challenge. After 18 consecutive winning selections, we were trumped by Bet 19 and Palermo and Lazio’s failure to find the net in the second half of their game – despite 17 shots being fired at goal.
Here’s a quick recap of last week’s selections:
- Bet 17: Gary Anderson to beat John Henderson – world champion Anderson was made to work hard by the ‘Highlander’, but he eventually prevailed 6-2.
- Bet 18: Lincoln City Double Chance against Maidstone United – no problems for Lincoln as they wrapped up a resounding 2-0 victory.
- Bet 19: Palermo vs Lazio: Over 0.5 Second Half Goals – the one that let us down. There’s not much else we can say about that.
- Bet 20: Nice Double Chance against Bastia – Nice took the lead here before eventually having to settle for a 1-1 draw.
So that’s that, then. Our previous challenge failed at Bet 19 with £124 on the clock, hopefully those following at least managed to bank their £10 stake out of their winnings at some point.
It’s no consolation but what we can surmise is that 19 of their last 20 bets have been winners, so we must be doing something right. Let’s get back on the horse and try and wrap up this £10 to £1000 Challenge in time for Christmas!
Bet 1: FSV Mainz vs Bayern Munich – Over 1.5 Goals – £10 at 1/6
Friday December 2, 19:30
Here’s an encounter between Bayern Munich, back on form after a little wobble and 2-1 winners over a handy Leverkusen side last time out, and FSV Mainz, who don’t go quietly. In their last six matches, the hosts have won three, lost three, scored ten, conceded ten. It’s simply not in their nature to park the bus.
The consequence of that is that they have failed to land this Over 1.5 Goal mark just once in twelve outings, while Bayern have only witnessed one goal or none in two of twelve. Combined, that means we’re operating at a 21/24 success rate; we like those odds.
Bet 2: Luton Town Double Chance against Solihull Moors – £11.67 at 1/9
Saturday December 3, 15:00
This FA Cup tie pits Luton Town, with just one defeat in eight and who have avoided defeat in 7/9 at home this term, taking on National League side Solihull Moors.
The visitors won a solitary league match in November against bottom-of-the-league North Ferriby, and they will find Kenilworth Road to be a hostile environment to try and achieve a giant-killing. They have won just 3/12 on the road this term.
Bet 3: Darmstadt vs Hamburg: Over 0.5 Second Half Goals – £12.97 at 1/4
Sunday December 4, 14:30
Some lovely numbers here, as Darmstadt welcome bottom-of-the-league Hamburg. If we add together their goals scored/conceded, 71% of Darmstadt’s have come in the second half of matches and 66% of Hamburg’s have done likewise.
Will there be goals here? We’d like to think so: Hamburg have notched six in their last three and yet conceded 15 in their last five. Darmstadt have conceded in 11/12, and 60% of their matches have witnessed three or more goals in total.
And that’s it from us this week: just three tips. To keep things logically spaced out we’d normally drop a Sunday night selection in here, but nothing tickles our fancy. With a challenge like this, there is no point forcing the issue – we’re in it for the long haul.
