- Burnley vs Norwich City – The bookmakers have overreacted to Norwich’s 3-2 win against Manchester City, who gifted the Canaries victory. Daniel Farke’s men have started the campaign well, but injuries to at least six first-team regulars makes them easy to oppose. Burnley are savvy and have only scored one fewer goal from open play than Norwich, while the visitors here have conceded the joint-most in the Premier League from open play.
- Crystal Palace vs Wolverhampton Wanderers – Quite why the bookies have Palace as the underdogs here is anybody’s guess. They’re not great, but they are yet to concede a goal at home this term. Contrast to Wolves, who have the lowest open play goals tally in the Premier League, the highest count for goals conceded from open play, who are yet to win in the league this term and who have a Europa League contest on Thursday.
- Brentford vs Stoke City – One of the best defences in the Championship meets its worst here. Brentford have conceded just three goals from open play this term, and they have been particularly solid on home soil. Stoke have shipped a staggering 17 goals in seven outings, and it’s noticeable from the stats that they have also lost attacking intent of late as boss Nathan Jones looks to stop his side from conceding so liberally.
- Millwall vs QPR – We’ve had plenty of reward from backing QPR already this term, whose 12-goal tally is only bettered by Bristol City and Preston – and nobody has scored more goals from open play than the Hoops. As for Millwall, they have mustered just one open play goal in seven starts, which is dark times indeed for Neil Harris’ men.
- MK Dons vs Southend United – Southend have conceded 20 goals in their last six games; that is a truly extraordinary stat. The managerless Shrimpers have also scored 40% of their own goals this term from non-open play sources, which is not sustainable. The Dons, meanwhile, have beaten rivals Wimbledon, trounced Blackpool 3-0 and gave a spirited effort in defeat against Ipswich in midweek, so they are moving in the right direction.
