  • Venezuela vs Peru – Copa America 2019 starts this week, and one of the first fixtures sees Peru, buoyed by strong showings at last summer’s World Cup, take on Venezuela. The Peruvians lost by one-goal margins to France and Denmark while beating Australia, and that’s enough to convince us against a Venezuelan outfit that is solid enough but lacking in star quality.
  • Uruguay vs Ecuador – They may only have played on warm-up game prior to Copa America, but that should not detract from the quality that Uruguay have at their disposal. Still managed by the popular Oscar Tabarez, who has just turned 72, the likes of Suarez, Cavani, Torreira and Godin speak for themselves. There’s not a great deal to say about Ecuador, who failed to qualify for the World Cup and who are yet to win a game in 2019.
  • Sweden vs Thailand – Watching Thailand’s 0-13 defeat to the USA at the Women’s World Cup was a torrid affair, and the scoreline in no way flattered the Americans. Six of their goals came in the last 15 minutes, and shows that the amateur Thai players simply don’t have the fitness to compete at this level. Sweden are a much more professional outfit, with players from Chelsea, PSG, Bayern Munich and the like, and they are expected to dish out another tonking here.
  • Canada vs Martinique – Running alongside the Copa America is the CONCACAF Gold Cup, and here’s an extraordinary price on a Canada side packed with some decent players. Alphonso Davies has been snapped up by Bayern Munich, Cyle Larin plies his trade for Besiktas and there’s the rejuvenated Scott Arfield at Rangers. A handful of others – Mark-Anthony Kaye, Jonathan Osario and Will Johnson – are among the leading lights in the MLS. Martinique’s squad is made up of players from their domestic league, which you suspect isn’t all that strong.
  • Degerfors vs Vasteras – Here’s a cracking price to oppose the home side, who are without a win in five. They are neither scoring goals (three in their last five) nor keeping it particularly tight (eight shipped in their last four). Vasteras, meanwhile, have avoided defeat in 5/6 on the road, and are currently in a run of form reading W1 D4 L1.
