It was like opposites week in world football at the weekend!
Who on earth would have predicted a 0-0 draw in the Liverpool vs Manchester City game? A slightly deranged punter, that’s who.
Watford failed to score against a leaky Bournemouth defence, while Swansea – with three 0-0 draws in their last five games, and Ipswich – who had scored just eight goals in eleven games – played out a five-goal thriller.
And then we had Freiburg vs Bayer Leverkusen, a pair who in their combined last ten matches had delivered three or more goals on eight occasions.
How did that one end up? Why, a 0-0 stalemate, of course!
So yes, it was a failure for our both teams to score betting tips last time out, but not necessarily due to abject selections; more because the teams involved completely contradicted the stats.
We must stick to our principles, however, as they have served us well so far this campaign. This week’s BTTS tips will do better!

Coventry City vs Wycombe Wanderers – Yes (10/11)
Anyone who caught a bit of Coventry’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland the other week, which was broadcast on Sky Sports, would presumably have been impressed with the Sky Blues’ front three.
The physicality of Jonson Clarke-Harris, the cultured left boot of Conor Chaplin and the trickery of Luke Thomas caught the eye, and with Amadou Bakayoko bagging a brace against Charlton at the weekend it’s fair to say that Coventry are in decent shape from an attacking perspective.
It’s in defensive areas where they have problems, with only one clean sheet in their last nine games.
Wycombe have scored two or more goals in four of their last six matches, including seven in their last four away dates – with tough trips to The Valley and Fratton Park well negotiated.
This is one of those matches where both sides will fancy the job.
Newport County vs Stevenage – Yes (8/11)
Newport are an interesting proposition for BTTS punters, as they are a good side that attacks well….but can’t defend for toffee!
They sit third in the League Two table despite having a negative goal difference and losing 0-6 to Yeovil just a matter of weeks ago. Their goals against tally – 19 in 12 – tells its own story.
Stevenage are a bit more solid and predictable, and with four wins in their last six they will head to Wales with confidence.
Bahia vs Parana – No (1/2)
Sometimes, the numbers are just too compelling to miss out on.
Parana, who prop up the Brazil Serie A table, have scored just two goals in fourteen away games this season!
That means it would be a statistical anomaly of the highest order if they were to find the net here, particularly as opponents Bahia have lost just two of fourteen on home soil.
Parana’s last five results – 0-2, 0-2, 0-3, 1-1 and 0-4 – don’t hint at a side ready to upset the applecart.
Salford City vs Braintree Town – No (7/10)
It’s top versus bottom in the National League on Saturday, and a chance to lay the basement dwellers when it comes to putting the ball in the back of the net.
Many critics suggested that Salford were buying their way to the title in the summer, but after a rocky start nothing looked further from the truth.
But Graham Alexander has found a winning formula….and how. Seven victories on the trot, with just two goals conceded, and the ‘Class of ‘92’ look good for a second consecutive promotion.
Braintree, meanwhile, have won once all season and scored just three times in their last seven games. Surely they can’t breach the leaders’ defences here?
FC Roskilde vs Naestved IF – Yes (4/7)
A quick trip to Denmark’s second tier now with a game between bottom side FC Roskilde and mid-table Naestved IF.
The hosts may be struggling but they shouldn’t be written off. They’ve scored in seven of their last eight games – two or more in four of those – and such goal power should be enough to lift them clear of the danger zone.
Of course, their defending needs some serious work; they’ve shipped a ludicrous 17 goals in their last seven outings.
Naestved are a more progressive outfit, but with BTTS landing in 11 of their 12 outings this term we simply have to get involved.
