- Everton vs Chelsea – At the end of a tough week in which they have trips to take on the top two sides in Liverpool and Leicester, Everton end the week with another tough ask against Chelsea. The Toffees either seem to attack well and defend poorly or vice versa, and they are easy to oppose. We’re not putting too much stock in Chelsea’s recent defeats either: their performances have been good, and it’s just a matter of time before they hit their peak once more.
- Newcastle United vs Southampton – While they are a game opponent on home soil – as witnessed in their 2-2 draw with Manchester City, there is still an obvious lack of attacking quality and intent from Newcastle, and now with Jamaal Lascelles and Florian Lejeune injured they are conceding all too readily as well (seven in their last four). Southampton have shown plenty of character since their 0-9 humiliation against Leicester, and they showed that spirit in the comeback win over Watford at the weekend. Expect the Saints to grit out a result on Tyneside.
- Hull City vs Stoke City – Will the real Hull City please stand up? Fresh from trouncing Preston 4-0 to go with their 3-0 win over Fulham, the Tigers then went and capitulated 1-3 at bottom-of-the-table Barnsley. But, if the hosts bring their best they should have too much for Stoke City, whose performances have improved under Michael O’Neill but whose results – two straight defeats – have not.
- Luton Town vs Wigan Athletic – There are different ways to lose football matches. For Luton, the 0-7 reverse at the hands of Brentford is the continuation of a run of six defeats in their last seven. Wigan are also on a downward spiral, but the performance data suggests it’s not all doom and gloom for the Latics. They played Swansea off the park but somehow lost, and also had the better of a 2-2 draw with Millwall.
- Bristol Rovers vs Southend United – Poor old Southend. They have only won once in League One all season, have lost 15/19 and have shipped an incredible 53 goals in 19 games They are easily opposed then, especially against a Bristol Rovers outfit who are decent at home (W4 D4 L1) and who put four past Shrewsbury last time out.
