  • Manchester United vs Aston Villa: Yes – United’s defensive woes were laid bare in the 3-3 draw with Sheffield United, and while sympathy is given to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a growing injury list he clearly isn’t able to coach his defenders into anything like a compact unit; they have shipped in 11/13 so far this term. Regular readers of this column will know we’re big fans of Dean Smith and his fearless approach, and Villa – scorers in seven of their last eight games – won’t be shrinking violets at Old Trafford.
  • Charlton Athletic vs Sheffield Wednesday: Yes – You have to feel a bit sorry for Charlton, where a crippling injury list has seen them tumble down the table with no win six. However, BTTS has landed in five of those, and on Saturday the Addicks take on a similarly goal-happy Sheffield Wednesday, whose last three games have seen the scorer troubled on ten occasions.
  • Stoke City vs Blackburn Rovers: Yes – It’s a case of one step forward and two back for Stoke, who have kept just one clean sheet in their last ten outings. However, they are typically good for a goal themselves, and especially against sides like Blackburn, whose incredible BTTS record reads nine successes in their last ten games. Defending is not a priority for the Lancashire outfit!
  • Preston NE vs West Brom: Yes – As two sides with promotion on their minds, you’d still have to put a big question mark against Preston and West Brom defensively. The home team have conceded at least once in 13/17 this season, as have the Baggies, but with both of the teams strong going forward we would have to expect a goal-laden affair here.
  • Eastleigh vs Crewe Alexandra: Yes – It’s off to the FA Cup second round now, where a giant killing is in the offing. Eastleigh, of the Vanarama National, have won their last two home games 3-2 and 4-2, losing only once on home soil all season long. Crewe are the joint-top scorers in League Two, but defensive woes explain why they have only won 10/19 so far.
