- Liverpool vs Leicester City – Defeat in their opening Champions League game means Liverpool have to bounce back with a win against Salzburg on Wednesday. That could have a knock-on effect to team selection on Saturday, and bearing in mind the Reds have won three of their last six league outings by one goal, we can back an impressive Leicester side with a one-goal headstart and still feel confident about our chances.
- Watford vs Sheffield United – Watford are a warm favourite to win this one, and that’s slightly bizarre given how poor they have been of late. Forget how good Man City are: you should not be losing 0-8 at this level, and to follow up with a 0-2 loss at Wolves highlights how little the Hornets have moved forward under Quique Sanches Flores. Sheffield United, hugely impressive against Liverpool, have won at Goodison Park and taken points from Stamford Bridge and the Vitality Stadium this term, so they shouldn’t be underestimated on their travels.
- Newcastle United vs Manchester United – Quite why Manchester United are a shade under even money to beat this Newcastle side is anybody’s guess, but punters should not be complaining! The likes of Luke Shaw and Arron Wan-Bissaka are expected to return, with Paul Pogba also nearing match sharpness after playing against Arsenal half-fit. Newcastle were woeful at Leicester, and while we accept they played with ten men for a long period that is no excuse for the way they defended. A team that can’t defend or score goals is hardly one to get behind.
- Accrington Stanley vs Oxford United – What a time this is to be a Oxford fan, who have witnessed their side win 4-0, 3-0, 6-0 and 3-0 over West Ham, Tranmere, Lincoln and Gillingham in the past few weeks. They haven’t conceded a goal since September 7, and surely have to be fancied against an okay-but-unspectacular Accrington side, who have only kept one clean sheet all season.
- Tranmere Rovers vs Shrewsbury Town – It seems crazy to back a side after they have just been beaten 1-4 as Tranmere have, but the Merseysiders actually played well against Ipswich and created plenty of good chances to close that deficit. Their goal haul of 15 is the highest of any bottom-half side, and they will give plenty of problems to a Shrewsbury side that has scored just nine goals in ten outings thus far – four of those coming in one afternoon!
