  • Newcastle United vs Watford – The Magpies may have beaten Tottenham last time out, but in truth they were played off the park and fortunate to escape with one point, let alone three. A lack of attacking firepower is their major issue, and Steve Bruce – like his predecessor Rafa Benitez – will look to 1-0 his side to safety. Watford, without talisman Troy Deeney, look a rudderless ship at the moment, and one goal scored in 270 minutes of football tells its own story.
  • Arsenal vs Tottenham – The bookies have been seduced by results here, rather than underlying performances. The Gunners were outclassed by Liverpool last time out and arguably were lucky to get the three points against Burnley, a week after looking ponderous at Newcastle. Tottenham fans might be down in the dumps, but they deserved to beat Newcastle last time out – if they had, seven points from three games is not too shabby at all.
  • West Brom vs Blackburn Rovers – Some of West Brom’s build up play is exquisite, with the likes of Phillips, Krovinovic, Pereira and Diangana shining already this term. The Baggies just need somebody to stick the ball in the net….that will come with Charlie Austin approaching full fitness. Blackburn have kept three clean sheets in a row, but their insipid attacking play confirms that their defence will have their hands full with West Brom’s exciting frontline.
  • AFC Wimbledon vs Wycombe Wanderers – Having conceded two or more goals in four of their five league outings to date – losing all of those – times are hard for Wimbledon, and they are expected to be in for a long hard season. As for Wycombe, only Ipswich have scored more than Gareth Ainsworth’s men so far, and their unbeaten run (W3 D2 L0) is well justified according to the stats.
  • Ipswich Town vs Shrewsbury Town – The Tractor Boys are rocking at the moment, scoring eleven goals in their opening five games and remaining unbeaten. Of the two they drew, they were the better side and really ought to have beaten Sunderland at the very least. As for Shrewsbury, they have failed to score in three of their five outings and defensively the underlying stats suggest they aren’t as secure as their goals conceded column suggests.
