- Manchester United vs Crystal Palace – But for a Paul Pogba missed penalty, Manchester United would have a perfect start to the campaign under their belts. Besides, they dominated Wolves in the first half of Monday’s game and should have finished the game as a contest there and then – nonetheless, there’s plenty of positives for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to take. As for Palace, not so much. One point, no goals and no major chances created. Stop Zaha and you stop the Eagles from soaring.
- Sheffield United vs Leicester City – Write off Sheffield United at your peril. The Blades have been the better side in both of their Premier League outings so far, and they are showing no fear in their new life in the top-flight. Their fluid 3-4-2-1 shape is causing opponents all sorts of problems too. Leicester haven’t lived up to their billing as a side ready to knock on the door of the top six yet, and their attacking play has been lacking vibrancy and dynamism.
- Coventry City vs Gillingham – Coventry have bee excellent so far this term, with Mark Robins’ new signings gelling seamlessly to replace some key players that left in the summer. With three clean sheets in four league starts, and six scored in the same, the Midlanders have made short shrift of their temporary(?) switch to St Andrews. Gillingham have not started well under Steve Evans, failing to win any of their opening three games an taking just one point from six on home soil. A trip to Birmingham is a much tougher task.
- Fleetwood Town vs Accrington Stanley – Statistically speaking, Fleetwood have been one of League One’s most impressive teams so far, even if a formline of W2 D1 L1 doesn’t suggest as such. Accrington, meanwhile, went from 2-0 up to 2-3 down in the space of 12 minutes against Shrewsbury, and that hints of a side low on confidence.
- Wycombe vs Southend – The upwardly mobile football displayed by Gareth Ainsworth’s side has caught the eye already, and even at this early stage Wycombe are full value for their fourth position in League One. They should have too much for Southend: four games, four defeats, one goal scored, ten conceded. It does not make for pretty reading.
