  • DC United vs New England Revolution – DC have won just one of their last eight games, and this season their keeper Bill Hamid has made more saves than any other shot stopper in MLS – that shows how busy he’s been. Luciano Acosta, their playmaker, is suspended. New England (W4 D3 L0) are unbeaten under Bruce Arena’s management.
  • Orlando City vs Columbus Crew – Columbus have scored just 11 goals from open play this season, which shows how heavily they rely on Gyasi Zardes to put the ball in the net. They’ve scored in one of their last four, and lost 12 of 14. Orlando defeated the Crew 2-0 as recently as June 29.
  • Chicago Fire vs FC Cincinnati – Anyone who follows Expected Goals data knows how well Chicago have attacked this term – they just need somebody to put the ball in the net. Nicolas Gaitan will help: he netted once and assisted three others in the 5-1 win over Atlanta. The Fire average 2.30 goals scored per game at home, whereas Cincinnati have shipped 31 in 11 on the road. In their penultimate game they lost 1-7 at Minnesota.
  • Real Salt Lake vs Philadelphia Union – We’re not quite sure why Real Salt Lake are as short as 5/4 here. They have taken 18 points at home to Philly’s 15 on the road, and their current formline (W2 D1 L3) does not hint at a dominant display to come. Philadelphia top the Eastern Conference, and in Kacper Przybylko they have a striker with a brilliant Scrabble score for a surname plus three goals and two Man of the Match awards in his last pair of outings.
  • Madagascar vs Tunisia – It’s understandable that Tunisia are the favourites here given their greater pedigree at the business end of AFCON, but their performances have not warranted odds of 3/4. They drew all three of their group games, scoring just twice, and needed penalties to see off Ghana in the last 16. Madagascar have been the ultimate surprise package, playing attractive football and beating Nigeria and Burundi in the group before defeating DR Congo in the last 16. They can shock the world again here.
