- Charlton Athletic vs Doncaster Rovers – At this point in time, it’s fairly evident that Charlton are a stronger side than Doncaster. They fully deserved their 2-1 win in the first leg, and now back at the Valley (W16 D5 L2) they will be fancied to complete the job in the play-off semi-finals against a Donny side that struggled away from home this term (W7 D6 L10).
- Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt – With a finish in the European places at their mercy in the Bundesliga, Frankfurt have baulked. They’re now without a win in five, and most troubling have been the 0-2 and 1-6 defeats to Mainz and Leverkusen in their last pair of outings. Bayern will show no mercy: they will win the title with victory here, and the German powerhouses have shown their best of late, scoring 21 goals in an eight-game unbeaten burst.
- Los Angeles FC vs FC Dallas – LAFC boast the best defensive record in the MLS, and of their six home matches to date this term they offer up a formline of W5 D1 L0 having shipped just four goals. Dallas have scored 16 goals in 11 outings so far, but four of those have come from the injured Pomykal, Gruezo and Badji. Another three have come from low frequency goals – Reto Ziegler’s brace of penalties and long-range free kick – so they may not create many chances of interest in LA.
- San Jose Earthquakes vs Chicago Fire – It has been a real Jekyll & Hyde campaign from Chicago Fire so far, but they have caught light recently with 5-0 and 2-0 wins over New England and Minnesota respectively. Sadly, the inspirational Nico Gaitan misses out through injury here, but the Fire have plenty of attacking verve to spare. As for San Jose, they are an average side, nothing more, as a formline of W 2 D2 L2 attests.
- Houston Dynamo vs DC United – A cruel quirk of the fixture list sees DC United travel to Canada to take on Toronto on Thursday before heading to the deep south of the US to play Houston on Sunday – to places the small matter of 2,000km apart! Ben Olsen will have to rest players somewhere down the line as well, and it just so happens that Houston are excellent on home soil: W5 D1 L0. The hosts should make their advantage pay here.
