- Burley vs Cardiff City – You have to feel for Cardiff, who seem to repeatedly come up against poor refereeing decisions. They are now also without top scorer Callum Paterson and defensive lynchpin Sol Bamba, and the Bluebirds have shipped 14 in their last five outings. Burnley are hardly Brazil, but they are handy at home and have won their last two games as well.
- Southampton vs Wolverhampton Wanderers – Take Southampton’s last dozen Premier League games and you will note only four defeats: generally, they are tough to beat at present. The Saints have netted in ten of their last eleven games, which shows why. This is exactly the kind of game where Wolves seem to struggle to motivate themselves too, and you wonder if they will be suffering from an FA Cup hangover.
- QPR vs Swansea City – Swansea have won each of their last three games (goals for 9, goals against 2), and while that trio were all played on home soil the confidence earned should not be underestimated here. QPR, meanwhile, are in freefall having lost eight of their last eleven and conceding 31 goals in that time. The Hoops also play on Wednesday, giving the Swans the advantage of extra recovery time.
- Leeds United vs Sheffield Wednesday – The Sheffield side are being unfairly dismissed here; odds of 5/1 for a side on a run of W7 D6 L1. New Owls boss Steve Bruce has even got his club’s fans talking of the play offs. As for Leeds, there are more pressing concerns at the top of the table, but they continue to take one step forward and another back: wins against Reading and Millwall followed instantly by defeats to Sheffield United and Birmingham.
- Oldham Athletic vs Swindon Town – After Paul Scholes resigned as Oldham manager, Peter Wild has been given the job on a temporary basis and has guided the Latics to three consecutive 2-0 victories. Swindon are in reasonable form (W2 D3 L2) but should Oldham really be 11/8 on home soil here?
