There wasn’t any great science to our picks: the MLS sees lots of goals, Brazil’s Serie A sees very few, relatively speaking, but the point is that the shot data we collect is yielding dividends now that our sample size is larger in size.
Now we have to go about proving it wasn’t a fluke in this week’s both teams to score betting tips!

Arsenal vs Manchester City – Yes (1/2)
This is the clear flagship fixture of the opening weekend of Premier League action, and it should be a cracker.
It has to be said that the first instinct is goals galore: Man City beat the Gunners 3-0 and 3-1 last season, and it’s not as if either side has been weakened from an offensive perspective, with Riyad Mahrez joining the visitors and Henrikh Mkhitaryan enjoying a full pre-season at Arsenal.
It’s a match where attack beats defence: Lacazette-Aubameyang-Mkhitaryan, backed by Mesut Ozil, gets the better of Otamendi-Kompany or Laporte, and at the other end take your pick from Sterling-Sane-Aguero-Gabriel-Mahrez against Koscielny and new boy Sokratis, who may possibly not know what has hit him on debut.
It’s on the telly this one, and it should be a cracker.
New England Revolution vs Philadelphia Union – Yes (8/15)
Having shipped two or more goals in five of their last six outings, it’s a bit of a no brainer to add New England to our picks.
Defensively poor, they at least aren’t too bad going forward: their main frontman, Teal Bunbury, is the fifth highest scorer in MLS this term, and the good news is that he has only bagged 31% of his side’s goals: a low ratio which hints at plenty of net-finders in their side.
Philadelphia are so hard to read that making predictions about them is tricky, but one thing that does tend to happen in their games is goals have a habit of flying in: their last half-dozen have ended 1-4, 0-2, 4-3, 1-3, 3-1 and 0-3.
LA Galaxy vs Minnesota United -Yes (1/2)
Even in this early stage of his MLS career, Zlatan has somehow managed to enhance his diva reputation.
Rarely playing in away games, the Swede has notched 11 of his 15 goals this term on home soil, and he will have a chance to extend that record here against a flaky Minnesota side.
Much to his chagrin, the Galaxy are much more than a one-man team, with Ola Kamara, Romain Alessandrini and Chris Pontius notching 21 times between them this term.
Minnesota are a touch less reliable, but they have blasted 13 goals in their last five games (10 conceded) and in Darwin Quintero they boast one of the best forward players in the division.
Ceara vs Atletico PR – No (3/4)
Two of the bluntest strike-forces in the Brazilian Serie A meet in a relegation six-pointer on Saturday.
Between them, these two teams have scored just 16 goals from open play this term in 32 matches, which helps to explain why they struggle so badly.
And yet the flipside of the coin is that defensively they aren’t too bad: they have the eighth and tenth best records in terms of goals conceded from open play.
Realistically, unless they deviate from the norm, this won’t be a classic.
Atletico MG vs Santos – No (4/5)
A bright start could now give way to something a bit tame for Atletico MG, who have lost top scorer Roger Guedes to the lure of the Chinese Yen and playmaker Gustavo Blanco, who has suffered a season-ending cruciate knee ligament injury.
Santos’ results, meanwhile, speak for themselves. After a chaotic start, their last six have ended 1-0, 1-1, 0-0, 1-1, 0-1 and 0-0, with the upshot being that goals – certainly from open play – are not a feature of their matches.
