We got swiftly back in the saddle following the disappointment of a fortnight ago with three successful wagers last time out, and while the bankroll may not have increased much at least we’re rocking and rolling heading into a full week of sporting action.
Here’s a quick recap of last week’s selections:
- Bet 1: FSV Mainz vs Bayern Munich Over 1.5 Goals – this was an easy enough land with the match finishing 3-1 to Bayern; the first two goals being netted within the opening half hour.
- Bet 2: Luton Town Double Chance against Solihull Moors – we were slightly worried when the Hatters went 0-2 down, but their class eventually showed in a 6-2 rout.
- Bet 3: Darmstadt vs Hamburg: Over 0.5 Second Half Goals – better late than never, lads! A 90th minute goal from Hamburg just about kept the ship on course. Having been scuppered by this market in the past, we might leave the second half goals option on the shelf for a while.
Anyway, let’s get stuck back in. We’ve got £16.21 in our pockets and family members to buy Christmas presents for.
Bet 4: Port Vale vs Northampton – Port Vale +1.25 Asian Handicap – £16.21 at 1/4
Saturday December 10, 15:00
The Valiants have long been established as an excellent side at their Vale Park home, and their record on home soil so far this term – W6 D3 L1 – confirms that.
Northampton will head to the Potteries on the back of a run of four straight defeats, and with just two wins in ten on the road we have to fancy the hosts to get the job done. That one goal cushion is a handy addition just in case.
Bet 5: Dillian White to Beat Dereck Chisora – £20.26 at 1/3
Saturday December 10, 20:00
One young fighter hungry for world success, the other a weathered veteran looking for a last big pay day. It’s a no brainer to back Whyte here, the young Brixton fighter with just one blemish on a 20 fight resume – which came at the hands of Anthony Joshua, no less.
Chisora is not the box office draw he once was and has had to travel the world looking for pay days. In the process he has fought a collection of nobodies, Kubrat Pulev apart, and you do wonder how he will cope with the speed and punch power of the younger man here.
Bet 6: Torino vs Juventus: Torino +2.25 Asian Handicap – £27.01 at 1/10
Sunday December 11, 14:00
Here’s a selection that could potentially backfire, but we’re confident enough in Torino’s home form (W5 D2 L0) to see us over the line.
Juventus have been surprisingly flaccid on the road – W4 D0 L3 – by their high standards, netting just nine goals in seven starts. A do-or-die Champions League match on Wednesday night also won’t help in focusing for what should be a tough assignment on Sunday afternoon.
Bet 7: Andy Murray to Win Sports Personality of the Year – £29.71 at 1/8
Sunday December 11, 19:00
It would be a travesty of justice if Andy Murray doesn’t win this, as much as anything else. The Scot, not much of a ‘personality’ granted, has had the best year of his career in tennis, with triumph at Wimbledon, two other Grand Slam final appearances, an Olympic Gold Medal and usurping Novak Djokovic as world number one. As year’s go, it’s not a bad one.
There are some worthy adversaries for the prize, including fellow Olympians Jason and Laura Kenny, Max Whitlock and Mo Farah, but in truth Murray is streets ahead of the field here.
